Alternative music has been a genre placed on the backburner during this era, with lo-fi taking the lead on what's currently most offered in the market. With a wealth of modern artists now taking to outsider genres for elements of difference, a few find themselves somewhat accidentally recreating alternative in ways that are fresh but still properly representing. Newer local solo artist The Pacing Party does alternative in a fairly experimental way.

Daniel Gardner, the man behind The Pacing Party, blends industrial electronics, 80's style goth pop and indie rock for sound that's fetching to the ear and strangely catchy. The first to come off his debut album Fine, "NOTHINGTOSAY" is satisfyingly reminiscent of both Depeche Mode and Dishwalla - a mix that might sound disjointed but actually works.

"NOTHINGTOSAY" first gained traction through its original downloadable debut on Loud Geek a couple of weeks ago, but is premiering itself locally today.

Fine is due out around February 2017.
