What is The Deli?

The Deli Magazine is a daily updated website covering local music scenes (thus far: NYC, LA, Nashville, Chicago, SF, Portland, Portland, Philly and Burlington VT). We also have a quarterly printed publication exclusively focused on the NYC independent music scene, meaning the bands and the artists that live in the Big Apple.

Mission Statement

The primary goal of The Deli is to expose local musical artists that have not yet reached a level of international fame: this is why all of our printed articles feature up and coming bands and singer-songwriters (while our websites also cover the most popular breakout bands) .

The secondary goal is to inform and advise the local community of musicians on any other matter related to making music, from recording it to promoting it and performing it. You will find this kind of information in our Delicious Audio Blog and Listings section.

Album Submission Policy

The Deli Portland ONLY reviews albums by Portland based artists.

At this time we only accept digital submission through our album Submission System here.

For added exposure, you can post mp3s and a blurb about your band on the local Open Blog.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BEING PART OF THE DELI PORTLAND'S EDITORIAL STAFF? SEND YOUR RESUME WITH SAMPLES OF YOUR MUSIC WRITING TO OUR LOCAL EDITOR.

Mike Harper - Editor

Between too many cups from a French press and a hefty handful of poems, Mike has spent most of his Portland life steeping in the  glorious rivers of neverending local music. After a short go at running an all-ages venue in Southeast, Mike tethered himself to his Nikon and his typewriter (so to speak), doing what he could to capture the constantly flowering notes and sights of the scene around him.

Apart from The Deli, Mike can be found booking the occasional show, writing about so much music on Words Cut Open, behind the keys at BBQCHICKENROBOT, clicking away at We Just Might Be Friends, and probably behind the lens of a big ol' camera

Morgan Brothers - Staff Writer

Morgan is into dirty electro synth-pop, woozy bossa nova, lo-fi garage garbage, psychedelic tropicalia, raw rock n’ roll, and all that dreamy stuff that has her hallucinating butterflies and purple smoke. But mostly, when she’s not infusing the stuff that goes into her ears with the words that go into your eyeballs, she’s being a mama to the raddest baby the living free world has ever seen, Bastian Wilde.

Shelley Gaske - Staff Writer

Shelley loves dance, electro, indie, pop, and plain old rock. She has a dog named Indie who gives high-fives and loves all bands unconditionally. When not creating on-the-spot dance parties or writing about the Portland music scene, she is exploring the Portland music scene or planning dance parties. Shelley also writes for CultureMob, plays outside, and gives copious hugs.

Jenn Fritschy - Contributor

Like the sea, Jenn is mysterious, salty and broad. Unlike the sea, she is the resident intern and comic-doodler for Apes Tapes. She is a non-native species to Portland, but is adapting well to the musical environment, and hopes to document her ascent to the "invasive" category through her fabulous and fastidious reviews.

Chris Young - Contributor

Chris is a PDX native passionate about rock 'n' roll, electro-dance-pop, hip-hop, synthesizers, and things with buttons and lights.  These days it's all about tunes that make you move.  But really, he likes grissini more than music.
