Cellar Doors & Cool Ghouls Co-Residency at Amnesia in San Francisco Begins TONIGHT

A single bill with both Cool Ghouls and Cellar Doors on it is a knock-out for any garage-psych fan. Multiply that formula by four and you get Amnesia's March residency. Every Tuesday this month, two of San Francisco's premiere rock and roll outfits--and some of California's biggest underground bands--will be co-headlining a residency at the intimate Valencia Street staple, and you can join the party for the sliding scale of $7-$10.

Since releasing their eponymous debut LP in 2013, the Cool Ghouls have risen to the forefront of the city's rock and roll community with a raw, classically-minded sound and raucous live shows. With infectious harmonies, three rotating lead vocalists and the occasional horn section, they never offer the same show twice, and these residency shows will be no different. Currently in the process of recording their second record, the band is ready to unload some new material, though you can also bet on hearing crowd favorites like Natural LIfe and the sweet, facial hair-inspired Grace.

Cellar Doors channels the city's underground psychedelic scene of the 1960s through their own modern, post punk filter. The result is a dark, distorted psych sound that exists in the more sinister spectrum of rock and roll. Though the band has only released a single EP, 2011's The Melody Haunts My Reverie, they have been busy spreading their reverb-soaked music like a plague throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Live shows are the only place to hear the band's latest tunes, so take advantage of the chance to catch them multiple weeks in a row at one of the cozier venues in San Francisco.  -Lauren Espina

Cellar Doors Denney Joints and The Shivas Support The Warlocks For Two Bay Area Shows - 2/14 & 2/15

Cellar DoorsDenney Joints and The Shivas will be supporting the influential neo psych band, The Warlocks this weekend at DNA Lounge in San Francisco on Friday, February 14th and at Eli's Mile High Club in Oakland on Saurday, February 15th.

Cellar Doors are a San Francisco based band that musically blurs the lines between post-punk and psych rock. They seamlessly mix both genres, which makes for a dark, haunting and ultimately enveloping sound. Denney Joints is an Oakland solo act with a taste for ‘80s goth vocals, dream-like choruses and a drum machine. Last year, he released an album called On Repeat on Exitos Gnosis Records. The Shivas are a Portland based band that takes joy in creating surf rock riffs, reverb-heavy vocals and psych rock breakdowns. Known for energetic performances, they put on a raucous and rowdy show.

And with those bands in tow, The Warlocks play chaotically dreamy psych rock songs that embody a drone rock style within their elusively genre bending sound. What makes The Warlocks’ string of Bay Area shows so special is that they're throwing a San Francisco release party for their most recent album, Skull Worship. Skull Worship is their first release in five years. Currently a quintet, the Los Angeles based band has been compared to the Velvet Underground, Spacemen 3 and Jesus and Mary Chain. With ties to Brian Jonestown Massacre (vocalist Bobby Hecksher was a former guitarist for BJM), the band has gained cult status and has established themselves as one of the most impressive psych rock bands to date. - Erin Dage

Mr. Elevator & The Brain Hotel Cellar Doors and The Spiral Electric Play Brick & Mortar Music Hall TONIGHT

San Francisco natives, Cellar Doors, will be bringing their heavy rock psychedelic infused sound to the bill alongside 60s-esque psych-pop band, The Spiral Electric. To celebrate the most recent release of Mr. Elevator & The Brain Hotel's album, “Nico & Her Psychedelic Subconscious,” Brick and Mortar Music Hall will be hosting a night of great psych-rock bands TONIGHT. All of the bands find ways to infuse and simultaneously transcend the psychedelic genre, making it their own. Expect a large amount of synths, reverb, and wah-wah. Yeah, I’m excited too.

The night will range from garage rock to more traditional psychedelic music, and this show is one that will keep you dancing or grooving throughout the entire night. It is definitely not one to miss! - Victor Casillas Valle
