Weekend Warrior, May 11 - 13

The tandem of Lauren DeLucca and Rachel Dispenza, a.k.a. Coping Skills, will be celebrating the release of its sophomore album Worst New Music (Citywide Records), with a show tomorrow night at Everybody Hits. The duo delves into the daily ups and downs via episodic songs, providing peeks into the songwriters’ psyches. Unobstructed, personal insights create a genuine connection of shared experience. Whether exploring points of doubt or frustration or finding moments of contagious euphoria, there’s a gritty, unpolished closeness that simultaneously bubbles over into jubilation. On this showcase (which will benefit No More Dysphoria), they’ll be joined by the dreary-romantic, shoegazing daydream of So Totally (whom have a new record in the works), the acoustic-driven, emo-crashing waves of Vivian K., and the raw, riff-rockin’ Big Quig. Also, hailing from Venezuela,  the experimental-punk of Zeta completes this billing. – Michael Colavita

New Coping Skills LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Worst New Music, the new LP from Coping Skills, is now available digitally and on cassette via Citywide Records. The duo embraces a keen self-evaluating perspective. Their ability to address the mundane nature of routine, while exploring the quandaries of daily life transform what can be viewed as bummer songs into euphoric anthems. Coping Skills are scheduled to be musical guests as part of the Darlings show on Friday, April 20 at Good Good Comedy Theatre. (Photo by Josh Stewart)

New Music Video: "Drop Out Of College" - Coping Skills

The duo of Coping Skills (a.k.a. Rachel Dispenza and Lauren DeLucca ) covers a lot of ground in close proximity, mimicking real life in the video for “Drop Out of College”. Holding down a plethora of tasks/responsibilities at their real place of employment (Boot & Saddle), getting fired by their boss, consuming a large amount ofbooze, and playing to an unpacked house, filmmaker Jackie Papanier’s playful interpretation of the song, featured on Relatable Web Content, takes on a Garfunkel-and-Oates-type vibe. It's something that many young artists must go through in their every day lives - only probably in a more humorous manner. (Photo by Julia Leiby)
