COTE

Cote releases debut LP at Union Pool on 11.28 + unveils single "Restoration"

Brooklyn solo artist COTE’s luscious dream pop continues to charm in her newest single, “Restoration.” Having recently released an accompanying video for her single “London,” filmed from the back corner of a local convenience store, this artist has come to define her style by her pure, unembellished approach to production. Her vocals in this track are reminiscent of the haunting styles of Lana Del Rey, exhibiting her balance between delicacy and power. This, combined with her nonchalant sonic demeanor, creates a clean sound that has shed its layers of excessive production. The positive spirit of her previously released single, “Meet Me In The Middle,” belongs in your ‘Morning Motivation’ playlist for when you need a bit of optimism to kick-start your day. This artist has found the middle ground between atmospheric and grounded, and aptly carries it into her timeless sound. Keep an eye out for COTE’s forthcoming album, out this November, and catch her album release show live at Union Pool on November 28.

COTE releases haunting single "Cruel," plays Alphaville on 05.11

COTE’s new single 'Cruel' is a soft, dreamy respite from a stormy, chaotic world. Gentle pedal steel fills space in the verses, creating soft sonic clouds while bold, distorted electric guitar riffs blast through them on the choruses. The instrumentation almost sounds like a more meandering, country-oriented War on Drugs. Her vocal timbre is somehow simultaneously haunting and soothing, offering gentle, measured observation, and raw unbridled emotion when it soars at the song’s climax. COTE played her first live performance (with band) at the Mercury Lounge on March 29th, but you'll be able to see her again live at Alphaville on May 11th. - Andrew Strader, Photo Credit: Jen Trahan

Cote unveils new track 'Green Light'

We highlighted COTE a few weeks ago in this very blog and we just noticed the Brooklyn based project (brainchild of singer songwriter Taryn Randall) released her second single, entitled 'Green Light,' which confirms the good things we heard in the first one, and in particular a beautifully expressive voice. No live events scheduled for her just yet. - photo by Jen Trahan

NYC Artist on the rise: COTE's mellow pop

Newcomer pop artist COTE has clearly been keeping her ear's peeled to indie pop's current state of affairs. On the NYC artist's debut track, "London," she brings together dreamy guitar licks in addition to nostalgic synth patterns — both of which are hallmarks of today's pop landscape.  Her dark and sultry vocals might be slightly reminiscent of mellow-pop goddess Lana Del Rey, but make no mistake: her debut single 'London' shows a peronality that's all her own. Most importantly, this is a beautifully produced track that showcases a young artist with a noteworthy voice and very promising songwriting chops. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best mellow songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
