Cotillon

Cotillon brings sunny indie pop to SXSW on 03.18 at Hotel Vegas

A kind of indie rock that seeps into your subconscious, Cotillon's music is the background to a sunny day in the park - or maybe it just triggers that thought. It's fresh and sweet but also nostalgic and blue. Even on a first listen, you intuitively feel like you've heard it somewhere before. Blending groovy, irresistible hooks with acoustic-heavy instrumentation, and production from the likes of Al Carlson (St. Vincent, Wild Nothing, Ariel Pink) and Shane Butler (Quilt), Jordan Caros, the man behind the Cotillon moniker, offers us a classic sound we've all been missing - without knowing it. The band will be performing several shows in Austin during SXSW, including one at Hotel Vegas on 03.18. - Andrew Strader

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!

Cotillon streams self-titled debut LP, out Jan. 26

The rock n' roll potpourri of singer/songwriter Jordan Corso, known in band form as Cotillon, follows crisp, precise song forms built in a classic pop template. Recorded with Chet "JR" White of GIRLS fame, Corso's debut full-length effort was written after taking a brief hiatus from promoting his very well-received EP White RosesCotillon will be released via Burger Records on January 26. You can now listen to the whole thing over at Spin.

Music Video: Kauf, "Relocate"

Minimalist and hazy, the video for Kauf's first single, "Relocate," matches the tracks washed out vibes. A disembodied voice coos over electronic pulses, like the morphing, double-exposed faces that fade into each other like polaroids of long lost runaways. Slow to build, the track's throbbingly hypnotic beat keeps you around long enough to hear the ephemeral sound design elements that peek in and out of the transitions between phrases. Kauf's 'As Much Again' EP is out now on Cut Copy's Cutter Records, with a full length expected later in 2014. Catch his one man act live as part of the Lawrence Rothman Residency at The Bootleg on April 7, along with Steffaloo and Cotillon. - Jacqueline Caruso

Cotillon Announce August Residency at The Echo

Here at The Deli, we are big fans of Cotillon, having premiered their most recent EP, White Roses, in March, and announced the band’s past residency at Harvard and Stone. Cotillon is one of those special bands that spent time crafting their specific sound behind the scenes before bursting onto it, all the while building up a local community of bands and fans alike. As the garage rock scene bubbles up from the underground, they seem to be leading the charge in their own way. They have proven to be hard working, passionate and talented, and certainly have a reputation for knowing how to have a good time. It’s these efforts, coupled with deeply personal, impossibly catchy songs that immediately charm and endear the listener, that has garnered them a coveted month-long residency at The Echo this August. Some of the bands announced so far that will be joining them each Monday night are Halfbluud, Jeffertitti’s Nile (a recent Artist of the Month winner), Tropical Popsicle, The Shivers, Dead Ships, and Tapioca and the Flea. Check out the John Hughes-inspired video below for “Talk to Her” off the ‘White Roses EP’ and head to The Echo every Monday night in August to see them live. - Jacqueline Caruso

Premiere: Cotillon, ‘White Roses EP’

There’s no stopping Post-Surf/Garage Pop band, Cotillon. Their debut EP, Votive Flower, was released in October, and they’re already presenting their second offering - the less heartbroken ‘White Roses’ EP. This second dose still carries the same moodiness, pep and youthful vigor, but with more cohesive, stylized production, and more assured songwriting. Standouts “Talk to Her” and “Tijuana” are filled with frontman Jordan Corso’s slacker vocal moments and the amazing guitar work from Zach Miller we loved on the first EP. ‘White Roses’ is equal parts nostalgia, peyote-drenched romanticism, laissez-faire francophilia, and post-post-modern anxiety. Stream the entire EP before it’s release on March 14, to be celebrated with a release show at The Echo on the same day, with support from Raw Geronimo and Free Moral Agents. - Jacqueline Caruso
