Cruel Youth assists on holywater's debut track "Hush"

Though we've seen quite a few musical icons make headlines in the fashion world *coughKanyecough*, it's quite rare to see someone from fashion make the switch to music. Enter holywater, a photographer, fashion curator and the head of creative collective Virgin Gold Cult, who is now also making her foray into music under the same name. And not content to simply get her toes wet, she has dove in head first with "Hush," a moody, yet upbeat collaboration with Cruel Youth. Over the track's party-ready instrumental, Teddy Sinclair of CY sings with fiery passion, trying to rekindle an old flame that seems to have burned them both out long ago. "Hush" is a very promising start to holywater's musical career, and is hopefully only the beginning of exciting collaborations in the future. —Henry Solotaroff-Webber

Cruel Youth unveils video for 'Diamond Days,' tours the US in November

NYC soul artist Teddy Sinclair seems to have found her voice in new project Cruel Youth, which marries her expressive and confident alto with an edgy and trippy electronic production. New single/video "Diamond Days" is a soaring ballad that manages to reference at once the Beach Boys' orchestral Pet Sounds arrangements and the mellotron in The Beatles' Strawberry Fields Forever, while gradually transporting the listener towards a lofty pop chorus. Don't miss the lady's live show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on November 21, part of her upcoming US tour to promote debut album '+30mg.'

Hypoluxo releases debut album 'If Language' + plays Our Wicked Lady on 10.07

If you love musical paradoxes (and indie pop) we recommend you to check out Brooklyn quartet Hypoluxo, a band that combines a rather serene dream pop with crepuscular and monotone male vocals. The dichotomy actually works: the tracks' harmonic content is rich enough to entertain the ear, while Ocampo's dark tenor, appearing only occasionally, adds a layer of maudit character that true rock fans will find appealing. If you like the RIYL game, here it is: Real Estate, Joy Division, Lloyd Cole and the Commotion. The band will be releasing debut album 'If Language' on September 30th, playing Our Wicked Lady on October 7th, and then leaving for a truly insane 40+ day fall tour which should be named "the clockwise tour of the US of A." Way to go Hypoluxo, safe trips!

Buzz Alert! Teddy Sinclair is back with Cruel Youth - new EP out on 09.16

Cruel Youth is perhaps the Marvelettes stuck in a black treacle, electro-acid dream. It is the smokey allure of 60's R&B wrapped up in dark, hypnotic beats and dripping with the power of a femme fatale. After premiering track "Mr. Watson" a few months back, the all-female trio fronted by Teddy Sinclair (FKA Natalia Kills), is set to drop an EP this month. If the first single is any indication, the EP is sure to be lead by Sinclair's soulful vocals and biting lyricism, deliciously paired with hazy instrumentals and sampling that makes the group's pop-soul tracks sound driving and even "avant" at times. Keep a lookout for Cruel Youth's EP dropping Sept 16th, and in the meantime listen to their single below.-Olivia Sisinni
