Fruit & Flowers and Kino Kimino take over Rose Gold on NYE

If you are still looking for a rocking way to spend new year's eve in the city, we've got an exciting show filled with excellent NYC bands for you (and very few dudes involved!). Brooklyn garage poppers Fruit & Flowers will be headlining this Cape House presented bill at the Rose Gold Cocktail Lounge together with Kino Kimino, a trio that plays an intriguing blend of post punk and what we call avant-indie (a word we forged to avoid using the ever-pretentious term "experimental"). Check out the two groups' video in the embedded compilation, and get there early to witness openers Coco Verde and Mima Good, whose tracks are also embedded below. DJ Chuck Berrio will take the party into the wee hours.

Fruit & Flowers release new single 'Drug Tax,' play Jersey City Cemetery 7.29

If you are feeling in the mood for surfy sonic fun with garagey and psych overtones, we've got a band for ya: they are called Fruit & Flowers, they hail from Brooklyn, NY, and just released a deliciously droney single entitled . The four-piece is technically skilled, with fast-paced and fleshed-out guitar parts (as heard in tracks like “Pick Fairy”) backed by a tight rhythm section, which too often is the missing link in emerging garagey bands. To top it all off, they layer dreaminess all over their tracks through lead vocalist Caroline’s saccharine soprano (and a fair amount of reverb, not too much though!). Our friends at Delicious Audio heard the ladies dig guitar pedals, so we thought to ask them a few questions about them and other matters at the link below! - Lilly Milman

Q&A with Fruit & Flowers about gear and the creative process.

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best psych songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!

Fruit & Flowers play Alphaville on April 28th

Fruit & Flowers return to ALPHAVILLE in Bushwick on April 28th, this time to headline a show after supporting Monograms' LP release show there last week. After performing at SXSW in March, the psych rock quartet has had a busy April playing gigs with other fellow Brooklyn bands and wrapping up a tour across the Midwest. At ALPHAVILLE, they'll share a bill with punk groups C'yotes and Teen Vice, the latter of which includes Tammy Hart of MEN and Joshua Ackley of The Dead Betties. Catch below their latest track "Way Out", written for Speak Into My Good Eye's 3rd Annual 24 Hour Song Writing Challenge, and the live version as the band performed it on Manhattan Neighborhood Network's The Special Without Brett Davis, here. - Will Sisskind

A Deli NYC Premiere: Ex-Girlfriends' drop new single "Slay"

Slay gurl, SLAY. Ex-girlfriends' new single is fierce, fun, and catchy as hell, and we here at the Deli are stoked to be able to premiere it. "Slay" is the latest release from the all-girl garage punk band, and the track is a dirty, glitz-and-gritz romp that pulses with the fervor of a bare-knuckle brawl at a glam rock show. Fearless, in-your-face, and just oh-so danceable, "Slay" is a slice of lo-fi goodness that you won't be able to resist sinking your teeth into. Stream Ex-girlfriend's new single below, and catch what can only be a livewire performance from them on 2/2 at Shea Stadium playing with Fruit & Flowers, Kino Kimono and Sutro Baths. - Olivia Sisinni
