girlyboi drop new (mini-)LP "Good Looks"

girlyboi is back at it again with new six tracks mini-album Good Looks, and the release is an instant stunner. The duo's vocals are either ethereal or snarling, and set against a bed of ambient synths or folk-influenced indie pop. The tracks work in a way that feels like the epitome of understated ny-cool. What's even more engaging however is the lyrical content of Good Looks: the record positions the listener as a voyeur pulling back the curtains--it weaves raw, honest emotions in a way that feels (maybe even too-) close-to-home for anyone who's tried their hand at navigating love and the city. Good Looks is at once intimate, and instantly relatable. Listen to the EP streaming below. - Olivia Sisinni

Girlyboi releases new track 'Popular Song' from upcoming debut LP

We booked Brooklyn ambient-pop duo Girlyboi for our latest Northside Fest show (on the day of their anniversary!) after they became our artist of the month a few week earlier. The item has been working hard on their upcoming album, which in all likelihood will gather the various singles they have been releasing since 2015. Here's a brand new one they just released, entitled popular songs, and slightly more upbeat than what they got us used to.

Buzz Alert: Girlyboi plays Baby's All Right tonight (02/22)

We have towards ambient music an attitude similar to the one we have towards olive oil - we don't really want it by itself, but add it to pretty much anything and... BOOM! Girlyboi is a brand new duo of musically gifted models, who play music that, according to our previous metaphor, floods their simple but touching folk songs in a sea of olive oil (and just the right amount of Eastern spices); the results are pretty tasty indeed. They released three singles in quick succession since September 2015, and went for a quick east coast tour. The word about their music spread so quickly that the door to Rough Trade and Baby's All Right opened pronto: the band released their debut album at the former in December, and is playing the latter tonight, opening for Deli favorites Wilsen, who graced our mag's cover in our NYC Fall 2013 issue

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best mellow songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
