Did everyone have a good Saturday? Because High Waisted certainly did. Their recently dropped “Boys Can’t Dance,” the first single off the upcoming Sick of Saying Sorry is a triumphant ode to the weekend, a power ballad on jumping headfirst into the frenzy, inhibitions-be-damned — and it’s accompanying video further emphasizes this hedonism en force. Frontwoman and guitarist Jessica Louise Dye’s powerful vox, proclaims how cutting a rug and letting loose is the perfect panacea to “[being] stuck inside [your] own head,” atop visuals of a wild bachelorette party and body positive male stripping. Massive riffs and danceable melodies abound, indicative of the garage and surf-infused energy we can expect from their new record, out May 22nd. Brooklyn-based quartet High Waisted is a fierce garage pop band that dwells in sunshine surf vibes. Though they draw from the sound of the mid-'60s, the four musicians are fearless in their determination to put their own quirky spin on each one of their tunes. The band is fronted by the formidable Jessica Louise Dye, who recently talked to our sister blog Delicious Audio about the High Waisted's latest release, and what she's currently using to coax the wildest sounds out of her gear. With the release of two new singles while embarked on an extensive U.S. tour, Brooklyn’s High Waisted look to expand their reach.  Moving beyond the garage and surf rock beginnings, this newer material appears to take on a broader scope.  “Free Throw” is an anxious chugger that expresses internal self-doubt.  “Wish I couldn’t remember - the mistake I made.  I’ll be better on my own.”  Although recorded in NY, the Nashville touch on mixing and mastering adds a subtle level of country-pop sheen.  “Firebomb” stomps harder with more prominent drums, crunchy rock guitars and Jessica’s sassy snarl lead vocals matched against dreamier background voices.  Both tracks come paired with two others from current tour mates The Coax, available now on vinyl and digital from Little Dickman Records.  Their current US tour has them playing nearly every night until early November before the band returns home on November 4th at Rough Trade. - Dave Cromwell

With such a touch-and-go winter, I'm not going to be convinced that the first day of Spring has actually arrived until all of the snow has melted off my front lawn. Luckily for me, I have garage pop band, High Waisted, to warm me up and get me into that summer mindset. The NYC-based group deals in sunshine surf vibes, drawing heavily from music of the mid-60's, but puts their own, quirky spin on things. Their songs are fun, high-energy tracks guaranteed to have you California dreaming, even while you shlep through the remainder of slush. Right now, the band is touring the East Coast in support of their latest album, On Ludlow, but we're sure that they won't be away from New York for long. The newest bare-knuckled single/video combo from Brooklyn-based duo Crushed Out, "Love Howl," delivers blaring, bluesy garage rock reminiscent of powerful bands like Jack White's side project Dead Weather. The track lives up to its name, with vocals yelping their way through fuzzy guitars, and a primal drumbeat. The video is DIY-ish but drips with animal magnetism, pairing the tune with images of mystical, half-human creatures losing themselves to their mating calls. (Why humans don't do mating calls by the way?
