DOUBLE PREMIERE: Humululuman - "YDKWH" & "Freak Out"

It's no secret that Kulululu and Human Ottoman have received much love from the Deli Portland because of the innovation they both flood into their recordings and live performances. We've premiered their songs, nominated them for polls and mentioned their names in show promoting posts, so when it came to the next endeavor Human Ottoman and Kulululu tackled it was sure to catch our attention. This time around, the bands have joined forces to bestow upon all of us a creatively energetic project that's entirely too good not to love.

Welcome Humululuman.

The premise behind this musical marriage sees them covering one of the best songs by each of their respective bands, "YDKWH" by Human Ottoman and "Freak Out" by Kulululu. Recorded at The Map Room Recording Studio by Hasmood (and some editing by Rollstars Productions), the performance videos are filled with all the craziness we typically see from each band live, with splices of entertaining animations that give a humorous element.

The supergroup will be celebrating the release of the audio downloads for these joint efforts at the Fremont Theater on May 12. Abronia will also be gracing the stage and with tickets being only $5, there's no reason not to see this sonic force in person.

Until then, get lost in the chaos that is Humululuman by watching the videos for "YDKWH" and "Freak Out" below.

PREMIERE: Focus! Focus! - "Desert Hearts"

"Desert Hearts," the new track from Focus! Focus!, features soulful vocals from singer Elly Swope, laid atop a clean execution of slightly reverb-heavy, twangy guitars and straightforward drumming that make for an all around solid track.

The cleverly shot video for "Desert Hearts" was filmed as a live performance at Fuzzfolk Studios and even features a special appearance by the cutest little pup pup. It's part of a triad of videos being released by Focus! Focus! today, where they'll be having a video premiere show tonight at the Liquor Store.

Also playing the video release show tonight is rowdy performance art outfit KULULULU and experimental folk band Willow House.

Check out the video for "Desert Hearts" below, and be sure to watch the new videos also dropping today for "Angry Song" and "Secret Heart" before you head to the Liquor Store tonight!

PREMIERE: KULULULU - "#14"

KULULULU are that kind of band that cover all bases during a performance. Not only is their music premium for jumping around and getting a bit crazy, but their costumes, crowd enthusing dancers and interesting monologues keep you glued and entertained throughout their whole set.

Their new video, "#14," couldn't be more fitting a video for them to release. Simple and somewhat complex, the video centers around a creepy mask and dancing around in a parking garage. Its artsy, its awesome, and it'll have you anticipating what they're going to do next. You'll see.

Check out the strange intrigue of "#14" below.

PDX Pop Now's Comp release party coming soon

Exactly one week from now, Holocene will be host to yet another year of PDX Pop Now's compilation release show. The comp, which has featured upwards of 40 Portland artists (both on and off the festival's bill) for quite a few years now, has presented the city's varied music scene with artists of all different genres.

This year's release show will highlights three of the comp's artists, with performances by classic pop act the Minders, along with the noisey indie rock of Months and the endlessly entertaining experimental set from Kulululu.

Admission to the all ages May 15th show is $8-$10, which comes with either a physical or digital copy of the compilation. Listen to Months' comp contribution, "Cannibal," below.

Celebrate with Marcy's Band on Friday

A celebration is taking place for new Deli Portland Artists of the Month Marcy's Band this Friday. Not specifically for winning the poll, but it's also the graduation celebration for Marcy's Band member Jon Huteson Johnson, who's graduating from college. Part of the celebration will be a show at Valentine's that night, along with Kulululu, Wave Action and Ladywolf

Come congratulate the band on their win and Jon for winning at life!
