Deli CMJ Electro/Avant Pop Stages at The Delancey 10.18 with Wildlife Control, Dynasty Electric, Dinosaur Feathers, Il Abanico, Cultfever + more

DETAILS ABOUT THIS SHOW + STREAMING
COMPILATION OF ALL THE BANDS HERE

This is going to be the longest list of this whole series of announcements. On Thursday, we're once again taking over both floors of The Delancey with upstairs, a line-up of electro up-and-comers from all sides of the spectrum and downstairs, some creative pop gems fitting under the Avant Pop label, for a total of.. NINETEEN acts! So enough chit-chat, let's get to the list, because that is sure going to take up enough space.

Opening the (free!) upstairs show, Thomas Simon's ghostly mixes, followed by the bizarre folk-tronic experiments of Max Horwich's Sewing Machines, Cultfever's chaotic outputs and Railbird's more intimate creations. Next up, we've got three out-of-towners, i.e SF's Maus Haus, Philly's electro/hip hop artist Lushlife, and finally, Anomie Belle, from Seattle, co-headlining the show with NYC's own Dynasty Electric. Then, taking it to the later hours of the evening, Ducky, and Drop Electric (coming from DC).

Downstairs, our two headliners will be Dinosaur Feathers (top picture) and Wildlife Control, who both released this year a delicious new album, second for the former and a first for the latter. We've also got, on this stage, three acts coming from Los Angeles: openers American Royalty, shoegaze-pop band Letting Up Despite Great Faults, and Kiven, who will be closing the show. Add to this Columbian transplants Il Abanico, Conveyor, whom we covered in our last print issue, the catchy jams of five-piece Modern Rivals and finally, Santah, coming from Chicago, and.. I believe WE'RE DONE! In the pictures: Dynasty Electric & Wildlife Control.

New Video: “Rosa Parks” (OutKast Cover) - Lushlife

Niiiiice - check out multidimensional artist Lushlife, a.k.a. Raj Haldar, doing a cover of “Rosa Parks” by OutKast on acoustic guitar for i-D Magazine’s i-N Session! He’ll also be performing this Thursday at The Delancey for a Deli CMJ Showcase. Enjoy!

SPARKStacular at PhilaMOCA Oct. 6

PhilaMOCA is hosting a SPARKStacular tonight to celebrate the music and career of the band Sparks. Over their 41 year career, the Mael brothers have managed to release 22 albums over a wide range of musical genres and are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. They also just concluded a European tour. The party will begin with an art show/memorabilia reception, followed by the premiere of Video Pirates’ hour long video history of the band compiled from found footage. After the film, various artists will be performing covers of their favorite Sparks songs. The lineup includes local musicians Lushlife, Shawn Kilroy’s Weird Hot, and Christen Hooks of Disco Machine Gun with a string quartet among others. The event is also being filmed for a documentary on the band titled, Never Turn Your Back On Sparks. Be sure to come out and celebrate this influential band… and get in the movie too. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 7pm, $10 donation, 21+ - Dan Brightcliffe

Choice/Cuts: Lushlife - “Meridian Sounds (Part Three)”

We’re back with the second half of July’s Choice/Cuts episode featuring South Philly emcee/producer extraordinaire Lushlife (a.k.a. Raj Haldar). This one is extra special because it is the first time he will be using a theremin that he received from the innovative and good folks at Moog. We are honored to be able to capture this moment and share it with you. Check out Lushlife performing “Meridian Sounds (Part III)” with his rad, brand new theremin! Special thanks again to the HotBox Studios crew.

Debut Episode of Choice/Cuts w/Lushlife Featured on YouTube!

If you didn’t hear already, the debut episode of Choice/Cuts, our live performance in-studio collaboration with HotBox Studios, featuring mucho talented South Philly emcee and producer Lushlife, was chosen to be spotlighted by YouTube Music yesterday, which we are so honored and appreciative of their support. Ha…you can still see us atop their main page right next to the guy playing music with his bike handlebar. Please check out our video and share it with your friend s if you dig. Also look out for the second half of our episode with Lushlife coming out next week where you’ll see him perform for the first time with a theremin. Good stuff!

The Deli Philly’s Choice/Cuts: Lushlife - “Still I Hear The Word Progress”

We are so proud to share with you The Deli’s latest collaboration with the uber-talented crew at HotBox Studios called Choice/Cuts! It’s our new live in-studio video series that will feature a rising artist or band each month in a two-part episode performing some of their latest material (and possibly old favorites) as well as talking about their gear and music experiences. We were partly inspired to do Choice/Cuts because of the fact that practically anyone in this day and age can record a performer with their iPhone, smartphone or whatever, and while it is great to have something to remember the moment and share with others, many of the recordings that have flooded the Internet are not really doing the artists and their music justice. We simply just wanted to do something that would showcase their talents in a proper light. We hope that we’ve accomplished that.

The Deli and HotBox Studios are honored that Lushlife, who is such an obviously gifted musician and performer, was nice enough to be part of this little recording experiment of ours. We’ve been big fans of his work for quite some time now, and we hope that if you aren’t already one too, then you will be after viewing the first half of this session where he (in our humble opinion) straight-up destroyed it on “Still I Hear the Word Progress” from his latest way rad album Plateau Vision (Western Vinyl). If you like what you hear and see, then he’ll be performing next on July 23 at Middle East in Boston with the phenomenal Shabazz Palaces and THEESatisfaction and then in Philadelphia on July 26 at MilkBoy Philly. Extra special thanks to HotBox Studios for being awesome dudes and helping to make Choice/Cuts happen the way that we envisioned it! Please contact them if you want to work with a passionate crew of good peeps who know what they are doing. We look forward to sharing more great music, videos, performances, stories and info with you. Much love and respect to all! Cheers!
