Madalean Gauze

Weekend Warrior, October 5 - 7

This Saturday will officially be The Deli Philly’s 10th Anniversary, and we are honored to be celebrating it with our good ole friends at PhilaMOCA, with performances by Deli faves Sixteen Jackies, American Trappist, and Madalean Gauze, as well as rad tunes spun throughout the night by the good folks of Born Losers Records. And of course, we would love it if any of our readers and the artists that we’ve supported over the years would like to share in what is sure to be a damn good time – you are all certainly invited! So please excuse our early departure for today as we get prepared (and a little rest) for tomorrow evening’s festivities. Thank you for all your support over the last decade, and we look forward to many more years of discovering great Philly music with you – CHEERS!!! – Q.D. Tran

Announcing The Deli Philly's 10th Anniversary Bash!

Dear Deli Readers,

This is a big one! We are very excited to announce the lineup for The Deli Philly’s 10th Anniversary Bash on Saturday, October 6th at PhilaMOCA. Yup – that’s right; for nearly a decade now, our branch of The Deli has been proudly exposing you to the wonderful, homegrown talent that has fostered this kick-ass music community of ours. It’s been an honor and a privilege to document this slice of musical history and share it with you, and we hope to continue on this journey with you for many years to come.

Headlining this momentous occasion will be glam quartet Sixteen Jackies, who also recently released our June Record of the Month. If you’ve never experienced them live, you are certainly in for a treat, and if you have, then we’ll see you there. They’ll also be joined by the anthemic songwriting of American Trappist, the brainchild of former River City Extension frontman Joe Michelini. And feel free to submit yourself to the ladies of Madalean Gauze, who will be bringing their naughty brand of post-punk/psych-rock hijinx to the mausoleum’s hallowed halls. Yeah – it’s on. Looking forward to sharing this very special evening with you! More deets about the celebration HERE.

Much love,

Q.D. Tran & The Deli Staff

Weekend Warrior, January 5 - 7

Hauntingly exhilarating, FUNeral, the freshly released EP from Madalean Gauze, sits between layers of secluded strangeness and playful enjoyment. Twisting traditional storytelling with a fantasy-laced vibe, the album may catch you off guard in a pleasant, surprising fashion; taking on cinematic undertones, the plot quickly turns. Tonight’s EP release show at Boot & Saddle will benefit Valley Youth House, a Lehigh Valley organization that ensures vulnerable, abused, and homeless youths in the community access to shelter and counseling, and features support from a trio of locals. Recently added to the Topshelf Records family, the harmony-fueled, girl-pop, throwback sounds of Queen of Jeans plan to release their debut album this year, and they’ll be working double-duty this evening, supporting Balance and Composure’s sold-out show at First Unitarian Church as well. Cut from similar musical cloths, the garage-pop quartet of Louie Louie dips into easy-grooving, semi-psych waters that retain a classic catchiness. Unleashing their personal-brand of barraging noise-pop, Empath will get the night started. – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, July 21 - 23

Madalean Gauze recently unveiled her new album Cool and Fun. Tonight, Johnny Brenda’s hosts a performance marking the occasion. On the six-song EP, Gauze embarks on a personal journey, exhibiting a centered, commanding presence, maintaining the course, even while the skies dramatically shift in appearance, foreshadowing twisting winds and unforgiving precipitation. While those surroundings could be thrown into a vortex at any moment, a playful but unwavering confidence continues to step forward. The beguiling sonic potions of Haunted Homes and the catchy but seriously shaded Americana of American Trappist (performing an acoustic set) will help set the tone for the evening. - Michael Colavita

New Madalean Gauze EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Madalean Gauze recently released a new six-song EP Cool and Fun. An impending danger looms as the musical engine continues to rev and the swirl of peripheral vocals hauntingly shakes the foundation. Finding the sweet spot betwixt bright moments of mountaintop clarity and grittier, in-the-woods, unbending ferocity, the album is assertively aggressive and focused. Head out to Johnny Brenda’s on Friday, July 21 for a record release celebration that will also feature Haunted Homes and American Trappist! (Photo by Bob Sweeney)
