Swap out your snow boots and parkas for your dancin' shoes and head over to The Middle East Upstairs tomorrow night, February 18. Brooklyn's Leisure Cruise are coming through Cambridge/Boston, bringing with them a warm wave of electro-pop that should make everyone forget about the frozen tundra outside, if only for a little while. They'll be supported by locals Atlas Lab and Sundog, who is making the trip all the way from outer space (also known as New Orleans), according to his bio. Our latest Artist of the Month is an astronaut with a loop pedal. Are you intrigued yet? Filmed in Boston, Sundog’s latest live video for “The Prairie” finds him sitting comfy in a city basement with a ukulele, microphone, drum machine and his signature looper (and, lest I forget, a bottle of Jameson nearby). On the track, a mesmerizing beat and Sundog’s soulful pipes are joined by a toy piano around the 3:30 mark, a slightly off-key surprise that even more surprisingly … fits. Sundog may be based out of New Orleans, but it only feels appropriate to feature the one-man show on The Deli New England while he spends some quality time in Boston this summer. Alex Stein, whose songs and performances rely heavily on his loop pedal, recently premiered the live video for “Superstitious,” a track from his latest album Space Criminal. The funky track features piano, synth chords and layered bass lines that weave in and out of one another, and the video offers a look into Sundog’s process of laying down each looped track on stage.
