Photo Recap: Work Drugs, Night Panther & Cruiser at KFN

- by Zach Blum

There was a most excellent sold-out locals only show this past Saturday at Kung Fu Necktie with Work Drugs, Night Panther and Cruiser. All three acts performed fantastic sets - complete with a “Happy Birthday” serenade from the nocturnal felines and an “Ernest goes to…” album giveaway. Cruiser encouraged the rowdiness to commence by having the crowd shout out submissions for a chance to get a copy of their debut self-titled EP. Drum roll please - and the winner was: “Ernest goes down on your mom.” Way to always keep it classy Philly! You can check out our photos from the fun night below.

Get Movin’ w/Work Drugs & Night Panther at KFN March 9

If an evening of seductive synth-laden music entices you, Kung Fu Necktie’s twin billing is right up your alley. With their latest EP Amore, appropriately released on Valentine’s Day, Work Drugs continues their trend of producing velvety grooves that take advantage of clean echoing whisper-style vocals, topping them off an airy foundation while incorporating horns to add a bright jazzy touch. Night Panther, an equally dance-friendly quartet, will also grace the stage. Bringing a sound that runs the full spectrum from an intense synth-and-bass-driven smack, to an airy vocal lead of smooth grooving pop. Night Panther creates an extremely energetic fluid vibe. Inspiring one’s inner animal to go out on the prowl. So, get to KFN, and get movin’. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7:30, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

The Deli Philly’s Best of 2012 Poll Top Performer: Work Drugs

Smooth-fi yacht rockers Work Drugs have come a long way from the "Caymen Islands," developing their musical skills with soft-spoken vocals, shakin' tambourines, and chiming guitar rhythms. These guys are the givers that keep on givin’ prolifically releasing a barrage of sweet jams and found-footage music videos, since they slinked their way into the Philly indie music community. This year, they’ve wrangled together their finest collection of sexified tunes for the group’s first “official” full-length album release, Delta. The band also ended up on shortlist of cash-prize winners and a Spotify-promoted Bon Iver remix compilation with their reworked version of “Beth/Rest.” The awards and accolades in 2012 were all well and good, but what they should be most proud of is the solidification of their live performance lineup that consistently showed improvement impressing more and more audiences throughout the year. They’ll be hitting the road for a mini-tour next month to spread their smoothness, which kicks off on Saturday, March 9 at Kung Fu Necktie.
